MAKO Design + Invent recently came across the ideal wearable tech design for seniors to enjoy without feeling stigmatized. Our friends at Kickstarter, along with the device’s Founder, Jean Anne Booth, launched the campaign back in February and had a very successful campaign, even surpassing their stretch goal.
We are always inspired by inventions that change people’s daily lives. We are eager to support products that are useful to various demographics and have the potential to bring about significant growth and improvements to an industry that supports innovation.
Unaliwear Kanega is a watch that helps individuals with cognitive disabilities remember when to take their medications, avoid getting lost, and assist with unfortunate emergencies such as falling. The wearable tech design is also available to keep family members from worrying about their loved ones while they are away. It gives users a sense of independence without being publicly recognized as someone who requires assistance.
Features of the Wearable Tech Design
Our industrial designers here at MAKO find this unique wearable tech design as pioneering as it can play an important role in improving the quality of life for many. Unlike other aid assistance devices, Booth’s wearable tech design is more fashionable and would not be publicly recognized as an assistive device.
Kanega operates with Bluetooth Smart to cater to those with hearing aids, along with 9-axis accelerometer, cellular, Wi-Fi and GPS communications, enabling fall detection, speech recognition, location identification, and an emergency helpline.
Apart from appearance, the fundamental distinction between this wearable tech design and other smartwatches is that Kanega does not require the use of a smartphone. For their targeted audience, Booth does a great job of eliminating an essential factor that may discourage seniors from using the device.
MAKO recognizes this device as innovative for its advanced, multi-purpose design. When developing a product, it is necessary for the creator to produce an item that is user-friendly and meets all of the requirements of the targeted audience. The wearable tech design behind Unaliwear Kanega resolves many concerns seniors and individuals with cognitive disabilities may have – whether it’s the public stigma, dependency on others, or simply the need for a smartphone!
