Despite the continued challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re amazed to see those in the product development and inventor communities still continue to grow. On our end, we’ve been pushing the envelope by partnering with 3DPPGTHA. Together we supported frontline workers by helping provide PPE equipment. And as we continue to work from home, Kevin has provided numerous tools for aspiring inventors like a special lecture on YouTube about actions inventors can do right now during this crisis to achieve meaningful results. In addition, we also collaborate with dozens of others heavily invested in the success and growth of this industry. Just like the team at Make48. They’re an invention development show that has helped make inventing accessible to all ages regardless of engineering, CAD, or PCB development prowess!
Make48 | Invention Development Competition Show
Make48 is a competition show that pits teams of makers against each other. Makers have just 48 hours to ideate and build the most innovative invention design. In each competition, inventions must meet the specifications and criteria of the challenge. However, within those 48 hours, each team must successfully strategize, prototype, and pitch their idea!
Because Make48 wants to make inventing as accessible as possible, Tool Techs are on sight at the ready. They take care of all the complexities of actually building the product from a sketch to a tangible commercial product. Our very own Tim Uys, MAKO’s Director of Design is a Tool Tech as well! In season four of this invention development show, he helped contestants develop 3D CAD models. That way, their prototypes can be 3D printed for prototyping or manufacturing, and ready for judging. Winners receive a cash prize, a custom Make48 trophy, and product market testing.
When they’re not on the road recording their invention development show and helping aspiring inventors express their creativity, they’re busy crafting great content for inventors, new and old. In their blog, read up on interviews with makers and team members, recaps of previous events, and summaries of one of the best industrial design podcasts, the Product Startup podcast! We even had Tom Gray, the Founder and Executive Producer of Make48 on episode 82 of the podcast! In this episode, Tom and Kevin chat about what inventors need to be before they start looking for licensing opportunities.
