The MAKO Student Innovation Award is a business pitch competition hosted by Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. The competition will reward recipients and their invention ideas $10,500 from MAKO and the Brookfield Institute to assist them in transforming their prototypes into products and successful businesses.

Application timeline
Applications opened on February 5, 2018, and will close on March 5, 2018. You have a month to get those applications in! From there, applicants will be shortlisted and finalists will be notified in March. Finalists will then be invited to present their invention ideas in front of the selection committee in April 2018. The selection committee will attend the adjudication event, watch the presentations, and make the final selection of the recipient based on the following weighted criteria:
25% – Innovation in Product Design and Concept
25% – Marketability and Commercialization
25% – Business Model
25% – Social Impact
Eligibility
- Students must currently be part of the Ryerson Zone network and in good academic standing
- Students must have a physical mock-up/prototype of their invention ideas and business plan by the adjudication date
- Evidence of cross-zone collaboration is encouraged, but not mandatory
- At least one team member must meet the eligibility conditions
