Recently Canadian Business named industrial design studio, MAKO as one of the prestigious 2018 Growth 500 list. Companies found themselves a spot on this list by growing their revenues by 799% between 2012 and 2017. Collectively these companies have employed 41,492 full-time (or equivalent) employees in 2017 alone.
Our Industrial Design Studio Named to the Growth 500 List
Our Industrial design studio was named to number 187 on the Growth 500 list and we couldn’t be more excited. In 2018, we have seen tremendous growth. Our company has perfected our unique and innovative business model which sets us apart in the industry. Our model focuses on modular phases of work for end-to-end services. We make all our services, from concept to design and engineering to prototyping and manufacturing accessible because of our word class in-house talent. This year we’ve grown to a 25-person team in three international offices, with a plan to continue to expand in hotbeds around the world. On top of that, our business model isn’t propped up by venture capital or even high-interest general bank loans. Our growth is 100% organic and grassroots – a true testament to our trailblazing founder, Kevin Mako.
How Our Industrial Design Studio Made it to the Growth 500
Another focus for 2018 and for our business to this point is to constantly remind ourselves that innovation doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Building a community is critical to our business model and that’s why we sponsor the Mako Student Innovation Award at Ryerson University, sit on the board of Next 36 – Canada’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Award, Brookfield Institute for Innovation + Entrepreneurship, and the Blue and Yellow Society. We believe innovation stems from all angles of our community and believe in supporting and inspiring the next generation.
This year alone we have worked with over 200 entrepreneurs in researching and designing their concept as well as engineering and prototyping their physical product innovations to move them towards their initial production run. Plus, we have prototyped over 50 physical product innovations.
“We’re thrilled to be named on Canada’s Growth 500 list,” shared CEO, Kevin Mako. “It’s an honour to be on a list of such innovative and unique Canadian businesses that are all making an impact on our country, the world, and the economy. We can’t wait to see what’s next for MAKO as we approach 2019.”
