Two months ago, we launched the MAKO Create and Innovate Contest to encourage inventors to take action and give life to their invention ideas. It is an inherent part of MAKO’s philosophy to give back to our community and help entrepreneurs in their ventures. There are amazing and game-changing ideas out there that never get to be exploited due to the lack of financial support.
We understand that designing a product and getting a prototype made involves possessing a certain amount of capital in the first place or getting hard-to-get investors’ support. As we are aware of this issue, we have created ways for inventors to get that support and bring their ideas to market through programs such as our MAKO Student Innovation Award, The MAKO-SAGE Innovation Hack and most recently, the Create and Innovate Contest.
It is so inspiring to see so many applications for the Create and Innovate Contest and the creativity and passion in each description of the inventions. Our team of experts at MAKO sat down to go through each invention and assess various criteria, such as market potential and innovation. With so many innovative applications rolling in, we found a lot of difficulty identifying the winners of this contest. There is so much potential in every invention idea we receive, and it’s important for passionate individuals who apply to continue the development process and take their product one step further.
Create and Innovate Contest: An Electrifying Winner
It is with great pleasure that we announce the winner of the Create and Innovate Contest, ELECTREFY.
Electrefy is a young Canadian start-up based in Etobicoke, ON. that developed a Low Power Fast Charging Station targeted to the Electric Vehicle industry. Their innovative design uses energy storage technology to make fast chargers more accessible, economical and grid-friendly.
This smart invention would allow the user to reduce charging time by 80%, thus taking less than 30 minutes to recharge their electric car. Electrefy could offer significant value to the automotive industry with its concept. We are very excited to be offering them $2000 towards our services that will take this project to the next stage.
Product development is, first and foremost, about making dreams come true. Go alone and you’ll go fast, go together and you’ll go far. For entrepreneurs, it is crucial to identify the time to go fast vs. far. Electrefy has successfully identified the right moment to work with a team… together we hope to take this far!

2017-04-03 at 11:36 pmMy question is: I have an idea to improve an existing product. I do not have a prototype but I have tried to make one. Where can I go from here to achieve my dream of inventing this product? Can you recommend someone locally?
