These inventions changed our world and they all turn 50 this year!

5 Innovations Turning 50 This Year

It’s 1969 and you just got home from school. You sit down in front of your B&W TV with your favourite snack and wish you were allowed to turn on the colour TV beside it before Mom gets home from work. You just want to watch The Beverly Hillbillies in colour for once. Today at school you heard some kids talking about something called ‘The Internet’ but you’re not sure what that is. All you can think about is getting to stay up late this summer to see the Apollo 11 mission on TV.

As we celebrate new advancements in technology and all these innovations taking place around us, let’s not forget how we got here. This year marks the 50th anniversary of some of the greatest invention production we’ve seen to date.

#1 First Manned Moon Landing

A very inspiring time for mankind to see Neil Armstrong standing on the moon, saying, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Since this brave invention production we have learned so much about our planet, atmosphere, and the galaxy we live in.

“It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn’t feel like a giant. I felt very, very small.” -Neil ArmstronThe Internet Is Born

#2 The Internet Was Born

Without the invention production of the internet, you wouldn’t be able to read this article. By far,  the most useful innovation on this list. So when UCLA Professor Leonard Kleinrock sent his first message using the internet on April 7, 1969, the world as we knew it changed. Since this great day, we’ve been given opportunities to obtain information, powerful knowledge and stay connected with people around the globe which otherwise would’ve never existed.

#3 The ATM Is Born

New York City-An exciting place to live in 1969 for invention production. It saw the first Auto Bank Teller, dispense cash to the lucky Chemical Bank customers in Rockville Center, NY. The level of convenience this device has brought us since then is exponential. We now have over half a million of these ATM’s worldwide.

#4 The Battery Operated Smoke Detector Is Made

Duane D. Pearsall; a name you don’t hear too often who created the device we hear loud and clear. Becoming a staple safety device in all homes in 1969, we thank this frequently life-saving invention production and the man who made it.

#5 First Human Eye Transplant

Although the transplant wasn’t as much of a success as they’d hoped, Houston Doctor’s still went down in history for this invention production of the 1st human eye transplant. 55-year-old John Madden was the recipient of a new donor eye in April 1969. This medical miracle would’ve been achieved if only the eye was properly preserved to be a viable match.
