As product development experts, MAKO recognizes the value in networking within our industry. Our experience in working with inventors, product developers and enterprise clients, has helped us understand the importance in building a community where all actors within the product development process -from inventing to manufacturing and selling a new product- can gather to share their expertise and experiences with one another. The steps towards success are made of multiple encounters with individuals that share similar interests and a similar passion. MAKO is creating and federating a community of inventors, industrial designers, patent attorneys, and other product development specialists by hosting “The Journey from Invention Idea to the Shelves of Mass Retailers” at our Austin office earlier this week.
As a company, we’ve always aimed to disrupt the product development industry by increasing the expectations of clients, the performance standards of experts, and changing the industry in its entirety. The event was designed to bring together industry experts, product development specialists, and entrepreneurial inventors as a critical step for both groups to share their experiences, expectations and expertise. Inventing a new product and finding partners who believe in your project can sometimes be challenging. Meeting people who are going through a similar process or who achieved what you want to achieve could be very informative and motivating.
With our company President, Kevin Mako hosting and Vice President, James Chalmers speaking, the Austin product development scene was fortunate to have these two game changers addressing the state of the industry and walking us through the path from concept to mass retail. Other industry experts such as Michael Morton, a renowned Product Design Specialist and past Design Lead at Dell, and Kirk Dorius, the head of patent prosecution group at Reed & Scardino LLP were there to share their knowledge on design and patenting. Attendees were able to ask specific questions to the product development specialists during the Q&A session and independently engage with the speakers during the networking segment.
Through events like these we want to continue to support the industry by providing the tools and information necessary to help inventors advance in their ventures. MAKO has a few planned events and meet-ups to host in the near future. These events are usually announced on the Meetup Group, Everything Inventions. We believe that by having supportive environments we’re able to build a stronger design community that can make a positive impact.
