+FRESH: Designed to Optimize Dental Hygiene and Dietary Habits

At MAKO Design + Invent, we appreciate the detailed process of product development, as we understand the necessity behind every step in order to push a product and maximize success. Torontonian Laura York came to us with an innovative idea that adds value to the dental hygiene market. Her invention was designed to revolutionize mouth freshener by combining the advantages of a mouth freshener to hygienic dental tools. With this in mind, we’ve helped her build +Fresh, a product design that helps decrease tartar build up by reaching into every nook and cranny of the mouth.

+FRESH was inspired by old chewing sticks used by Babylonians 7000 years ago and by Ancient Egyptians. Teeth cleaning twigs can be obtained from a variety of tree species. One of the most common teeth cleaning twig is called Miswak and is made from the Salvadora persica tree. Due to its efficiency, this method is still being used in different parts of Africa, the Middle East and South America.

This Canadian innovation stands out from other mouth fresheners with its fun shape. Laura York’s innovative and edible product is shaped in a 3D-plus-symbol to allow +FRESH to reach areas in the users’ mouth that a regular gum wouldn’t, and eliminate plaque and decaying food remaining stuck between the teeth.

+FRESH could be described as the love child of a teeth stick and a chewing gum. The inventors took the best features from both products to create a smart and practical solution for users on the go. Its proprietary, sugar-free ingredients and unique design offers multiple benefits for the users: it helps prevent tooth decay and gum disease, it decreases tartar build up and provides a fresh breath for several hours. The portability of the product makes it easy and fun to use. While it is not designed to replace your teeth brushing process, it is certainly designed to help reduce the need of wanting to brush your teeth when you’re in public.
