Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of Squid Game by now. This hit Korean survival thriller is the biggest show right now on Netflix. Everywhere you go online, there’s an article or video about the Squid Game. And rightly so. With over 110 million viewers in the first 28 days, Squid Game has become the biggest series launch on Netflix. A record previously held by Bridgerton with 82 million views. In between all the viral dalgona or ddakji memes, some took it upon themselves to create this fascinating Squid Game invention design concept – Squid Game cameras.
Yes, MAKO Design is shamelessly jumping on the Squid Game bandwagon.
Warning, minor spoilers ahead.
Squid Game Home Security Camera & Webcam
We learned about this Squid Game invention design from a recent post on Yanko Design’s website. Conceptualized by Cheon Ryong Choi, Soonook Kwon and Jaeyeon Nam, they created two unique designs inspired by two aspects of the show. The first design inspiration comes from the workers adorned in bright pinkish-red suits and black masks. While the second part of their inspiration came from the CCTV cameras used to monitor the survivors in the show.
The first design is a home security camera hidden in plain sight. To the unsuspecting, this Squid Game invention design looks like a cute figure. However, within the head of the figure is a security camera. The camera rotates 180 degrees and features sensors to detect motions and sounds to keep your premises safe and secure. Under the hood of the figure is a camera cover controlled by your smartphone to deliberately obstruct the camera when you need to.
Like the home security camera, their second Squid Game invention design features the camera on the head of the figure as well. However, the figure’s arms extended forward to securely hook onto the top of your computer monitor and function as a webcam. In the show, we see circles printed on the front of the worker’s mask. The designers ingeniously installed a dimmable light ring where the circle would normally be to improve the lighting conditions while in a call or taking a selfie. The hands of the worker figure are made with a rubber material so the webcam doesn’t fall off.
Which of the two is your favorite?
